Recognizing Stroke Symptoms & Saving Lives
"Mum started stammering, and suddenly her tongue felt heavy. That’s when we guessed she might be having a stroke,” shares Henry, Maria’s youngest son. Just days before, the family had lost a loved one, and they believe the shock may have triggered their 84-year-old mum’s stroke. “Once we noticed the symptoms, we rushed her to Kijabe Hospital,” Henry recalls. Mama Henry was admitted in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for two days, where she was closely monitored, before being moved to the High Dependency Unit (HDU) as she began to respond positively. Just two days later, she was well enough to go home. “We are so grateful for Kijabe Hospital! Upon mum’s discharge, we were given guidance on how to prevent this from happening again,” Henry says, a smile spreading across his face. Do you know the signs of a stroke? Recognizing them early can ensure urgent care and even save lives, as it did for Mama Henry.
