Kathleen's Story
Earlier this year, 72-year-old Kathleen faced an unexpected challenge: she slipped on a rug and fell in her home in Malindi. She was rushed to a local hospital, where an X-ray revealed a fractured femur, dangerously close to her total knee replacement from 1996. Knowing her injury needed specialized care, Kathleen decided to come to Kijabe Hospital, hopeful that we could provide the help she needed. Arriving on February 27, Kathleen spent her first night with her leg immobilized in a brace, waiting for further assessment and a treatment plan. The following months were filled with uncertainty as she followed guidance from our orthopaedic specialists. “I was relieved when I found out Dr. Watson would be able to fix my knee,” she recalled. “I had waited eagerly for this news, traveling up to Kijabe from Malindi for assessments.” On August 15, after months of anticipation, Kathleen finally underwent the surgery she needed. “The team helped me understand that waiting for my femur to heal was crucial, allowing Dr. Watson and his team to successfully perform the revision. They were incredibly patient with me, even when I was probably very impatient,” she reflected. Looking back on her experience, Kathleen shared, “The care at Kijabe Hospital was outstanding. The nurses and staff treated me like a person, not just a number. It felt more like a ministry than just a job!” Kijabe Hospital holds a special place in Kathleen’s heart; her husband’s family has lived in Kenya since 1940, and many family members have been treated by our doctors over the years. Her gratitude extended beyond the doctors. “To the nursing and surgical staff, the cleaners, catering services, and admissions—HUGE THANK YOU, and GOD bless each one of you. May God continue to use you all for His glory and purposes. My family and I are deeply grateful to God and to you.” It’s always a pleasure impacting lives from all walks of life! #1MillionLives #CompassionateHealthCare
