Second chance of life

"I was involved in a road traffic accident along the Eastern Bypass. This was in September 2021," recounted Winnie, a vibrant 22-year-old whose life took an unexpected turn that day. She was heading home after receiving COVID-19 vaccine. In the midst of the crowd build-up at the accident scene , a good Samaritan rushed her to a local hospital in Ruiru. I was in a terrible state. I saw a ray of hope when my family decided to transfer me to Kijabe Hospital, she continued.
After undergoing surgery, her recovery journey was marked by pain and psychological strain. She found solace in our Psychiatric and psychological team. "The conversations we shared made my stay more bearable, gradually renewing my will to embrace life," she reflected, her eyes shimmering with gratitude.
After two months with the General Surgery department, Winnie was handed over to the plastic and reconstructive surgery team. Here, the team became more than just medical professionals; "They became my pillars of strength. Beyond the complex procedures, it was the friendship and spiritual guidance they offered that truly made a difference, she fondly remembered.
Reflecting on her journey, Winnie said, "I extend my heartfelt appreciation to the HDU team, all the nurses who endured my cries, the physiotherapy team, the anesthetists, the plastic surgery team, and even the security team. I could continue mentioning every team that attended to me. It is easier to say a big thank you to Kijabe Hospital." her voice, though soft, carried the weight of her gratitude.
Winnie is currently a third-year student pursuing Public Relations and Creative Advertising. "The care I received at Kijabe Hospital has given me a second chance at life and taught me the importance of every moment. I am more determined to make the most of each day."
It takes a Hospital village to care for a patient. A big shout-out to our teams for compassionately serving together to help our patients pursue their dreams and aspirations!
