A first!

We did our first Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) procedure last month!

"ROP occurs when babies are born prematurely, putting them at risk of blindness due to immature retinal vascularization. In lay language, immature retina, explained Dr. Teresia Chege, an Ophthalmologist.

Late July, our paediatric team identified several patients at risk for ROP. During these examinations, one patient was found to require urgent surgical intervention. She successfully received an intraocular (eye) injection!
After the procedure, Dr. Teresia praised the team, saying, I congratulate them for their efforts to keep the babies in their mothers' wombs for as long as possible! Even after birth, Kijabe Hospital has a very high survival rate - the best in the country!

A huge shout-out to the team for their dedication. Heres to many more life-saving procedures!
